Manga to Anime.

“This anime is full of ordinary dialogue so that viewers can fully enjoy how cute the girls are.”

A guide to the anime episodes, including the skits included. If a title is in (brackets) it means the title is not definite.

Episode One[]

Aired; July 5th 2012.
As five young comedians, Marī, Kigurumi, Tetora, Gankyō and Kukuru receive an invitation to a casual dress party, they ponder over what it exactly means to dress casually. Later, the discussion turns to whether everyone prefers dogs or cats.

Skits:[]

Started with Bōhatei, Tetora's rakugo.

普段問答, Fudan Mondō, Normal Dialogue[]

Ep1 Act1 Animation

The exaggerated motion to prove that they're trying hard to animate something with so little action.

From the very beginning the characters, mainly Tetora, point out that "You should just read this manga as is" as the anime is mainly dialogue with hardly any action and mostly takes part in a dressing room. They also make a point to make fun of the readers when Kukuru mentions that most people will be watching for free. Finally, the skit's title appears and the characters go on to talking about what they normally do and how it's hard to act normal when they're told to. And so is the first appearance of Marii's "Quit asking pointless questions!". This is where they start blending into the next skit.

ふく違い, Fuku Chigai, Different Clothes[]

Pajamas

Here is where Tetora states that she finds it hard to go into ramen restaurants due to the unspoken dress code, she also features a reference to Saori from OreImo. Kukuru then holds up an envelope stating that they were suddenly invited to a party which states to "dress casually". Marii has an outburst stating that "just because the invitation tells us to dress casually doesn't mean we should actually do it!" and refers to manga-kas who became humiliated at parties because they dressed "casually". Kukuru then points out that what most people wear is their uniforms for work or school and so it'd just become a cosplay party. Next it moves on to thinking that "casual" probably doesn't refer to "work", so what about "plain"? But people wear something different everyday so shouldn't "casual" be something you wear everyday? And so: pajamas! As it's what people wear most of the time when not at work. All the characters appear in their pajamas except for Marii, who's then revealed to sleep in the nude, and so Kigurumi reveals that "Marii's 'casual wear' is being naked!" as to which Marii yells "That's not 'wear' at all!" All of a sudden Marii's being stipped as the girls stated they're "definitely not doing it to boost our ratings! And it's not for the sales either!" And so Marii is hiding behind her name as the girls flip the pages, introducing all the characters with their names. All the names are puns, check the character's pages to see what they refer to.

"Dress casually"->Humiliation at dressing to casually->Cosplay party->Pajama party->Nude party

叫び指南, Sakebi Shinan, Shouting Instructions[]

Marii ends up having to prove that she's not a crossdressing boy. Later, the girls visit Asakusa where they try their hand at some fortunes. This leads the girls to discuss why Tetora has such great luck and always seems to avoid danger.

無情風呂, Mujō Buro, A Bath Beyond[]

Following her performance, Kukuru asks the girls who they would give chocolate to on Valentine's Day, noting that it just around the corner. Though Marii quickly point out that Valentine's Day is actually six months away, Gankyou, Tetora, and Kigurumi declare that they would give chocolate to kabuki actor Ebizou (though his name is bleeped out). Marii then scoffs and tells them that instead of giving candy out, they, as women, should be receiving chocolates instead. Just then, Marii suddenly receives a large delivery of chocolates. The girls view this as Marii being the strong type of girl who receives chocolates from other girls at an all-girls school, before questioning outloud if she is really even a girl in the first place.

Despite her attempts, the other girls don't seem be impressed. Gankyou accuses Marii of faking her Tokyo dialect, and noting that she was originally from Tokushima prefecture. The girls then say that no matter what, they will still be friends, which only upsets Marii even more and makes her even more determined to prove that she is a woman. She then opens her top and shows them her breasts, but Tetora points out that it is not very ladylike. After asking the girls what could she actually do to prove that she is a woman, they make her sit and then stand in a lady-like manner. While she is able to do it for a moment, the pressure on her legs causes her to jump up through the ceiling and later kick Kukuru through a door panel.

After suggesting other ideas, she looks back at her past grudges, eventually revealing that her past is based on a French Imperial Guard (likely based on Oscar Francois de Jarjayes). Gankyou eventually decides to settle it in the most simple way by taking a bath.

浅草参り, Asakusa Mairi, Asakusa Visit[]

真田小ZOO, Sanada Kozū, Sanada Ko-ZOO[]

Episode Four[]

Aired; July 26th 2012.

As Gankyō exhibits some violent behavior, the girls discuss the stereotypes that come when a girl wears glasses. Later, as Kukuru gets trainsick, the girls try to come up with various ailments for her. Afterwards, on the night of a full moon, the girls sit and discuss moon-related topics before being attacked by a large rabbit.

眼鏡小娘, Megane Komusume, (Little Glasses Girl)[]

よいよい台場, Yoiyoi Daiba, (Good, Good, Daiba)[]

The girls take a train to Odaiba. Marii asks the group why are they riding on the black-headed gull (yurikamome, which refers to both the bird and the train that they are on, New Transit Yurikamome ), before Gankyou points out that the proper name is "Tokyo Waterfront New Transit Waterfront Line". She then explains that Yurikamome are in fact a real type of bird, using the term zoku ("family, clan") to explains which family it belongs to. Upon hearing zoku, Marii thinks of "Bōsōzoku", which the other girls mention as being on the decline, due to the costs of modifying bikes (as well as stricter laws).

As the trains continues on, the girls reflect back on when they first started training to become rakugo. Tetora explains that she used to practice her routine while on a train to test her courage, Kigurumi practiced speaking while doing sit-ups, Kukuru had to carry her master's bag and clean his house, and Gankyou had wipe her master's butt, before Marii points out that Gankyou is talking about an old sumo apprentice tradition.

The girls then notice Rainbow Bridge before experiencing a sharp turn, which causes Kukuru to experience motion sickness. The girls try to help her by offering her food and water, suggesting that she write something on her hand and even doing a backward roll in the style of actress Mitsuko Mori. As the trains continues on, they try to get Kukuru to notice the scenery, where they notice the Fuji Television building and are waved to by their mascots, Gachapin and Mukku (although they are both censored).

After the girls get off, Kukuru tells them that she feels much better now, before realizing that they did not see where they exited at. As they look up, a large wave of cosplayers walk towards them carrying bags. They then notice that in front of them is Tokyo Big Sight and that the people leaving came from Comiket. After a few moments, the girls decide to just go home.

Several of the cosplayers that walk past the girls are dressed as characters from series that were animated by J.C. Staff, which also animated Joshiraku. They include:

兎の目, Usagi no Me, (Eye of the Rabbit)[]

The girls are partaking in Tsukimi ("moon viewing" a festival that honors the autumn moon) before revealing that they are watching the moon from a projector, as the Tokyo evening skyline is cloudy on that night. Tetora mentions that its the 15th (the day that the full moon is celebrated during the Autumn Moon festival), so they should be able to see the full moon.

Marii then arrives with a wooden sword in hand and asks the girls if there are any windows to break, alluding to the song "Sotsugyo" (卒業 "Graduation") by Yutaka Ozaki. Tetora explains to her that Jūgoya (十五夜, fifteenth night) is different from "Jūgo no Yoru" (15の夜, "A night at Fifteen", another song by Ozaki). While Tetora explains her point, an image of a man riding a motorcycle at night is shown, as Gankyou laments that she does not want to become a boring adult (both alluding to the lyrics from "Jūgo no Yoru" as well as Ozaki's lyrics that often deal with the angst of adolescence).

As the girls resume looking at the moon, Kigurumi becomes upset that she cannot see the image of the moon rabbit. Marii notes that moon viewing parties are simply an excuse to eat Tsukimi dango while looking at the moon, so Tetora suggest that they eat soba instead. Marii becomes bored rather quickly with eating noodles, so Gankyou suggests that they play tug-of-war, like people in southern Kyushu and Okinawa do for the autumn moon festival. They then try praising the moon while mimicking a drum, which annoys Marii even more, causing her to suggest that they go back to just watching the moon in silence.

After resuming tsukimi, Kigurumi becomes upset again due to her not being able to see the moon rabbit. Kukuru then tells the group that in different cultures, the image on the moon resembles something else, such as a crab with a big claw or an old woman reading a book. While the girls become amused the thought of the image being something other than a rabbit, Kukuru tells them taht she thinks it looks like a hikikomori who is about to receive a copy of Shounen Jump from his mother. Tetora agrees with Kukuru, but Kigurumi becomes upset and tells them that there are no hikikomori on the moon. Gankyou tell the girls that she thinks it is an image of a pervert sniffing a girl's butt at an impossible angle, which causes Marii to laugh and agree with her, but Kiguru is disgusted that they could even think that.

The girls eventually realize that it is important to understand that it is normal for different cultures and people to see other things on the moon instead of a rabbit.

A moment later, the girls receive a phone call from their master who informs them that his rabbit is missing and to be on the lookout for him. Just then, the door to the girls' room is opened, with a giant black rabbit standing in front of them. He then proceeds to beat the girls up until Kigurumi suggests that they try to appease him with food and dancing. While it briefly calms him down, he attacks them again, forcing the girls to try other methods, such as singing the children's song "Furusato", performing bunny hops and dressing up as bunny girls while offering him sake and a massage only to be thrown around again. Kigumi puts on a tortoise shell, believing that it is the rabbit's natural enemy, but he quickly kicks her and knocks her to the ground, leaving her unable to get back up.

Marii then decides that ultimate way to stop the rabbit and his attacks is to dress up as Princess Kaguya, believing that he would grovel at the feet of the moon princess. Instead, her plan backfires, as he immediately pulls her out of her costume and teleports her to the moon. As the girls watch the events unfold onto their projector, the image on the moons takes on a new shape: Marii, crying while on her hands and knees as the rabbit sniffs her butt.
